I am looking for a vessel between 38 and 40 feet to live aboard full-time and eventually sail single-handedly along the East Coast.

If I purchase this type of boat, what can I expect from the model, and how suitable is it for solo sailing/living?

Are there any specific model years to avoid, or how old is too old to consider buying?

Additionally, what can I expect in terms of performance and ease of handling for single-handed sailing?

oh, it's fantastic. The Oceanis 40 is a pretty forgiving and easy to handle boat, which is perfect for single handing.
They tend to be stable and track well. For liveaboard, the interior layouts are typically very practical and comfortable.
When it comes to how old is too old, it's less about the specific year and more about the maintenance history and condition of that particular boat. you know that a well cared for 20 year old boat can be a better buy than a neglected 10 year old one.
